Always in darkness, I’ve been
wary of peculiar shadows and
mysterious sounds never seen
nor heard in the light of day.
“Expanding and contracting –
nothing to worry about,” he’d say
when I was fearful in the night.
It was easy, then, to curl up and
go to sleep, feeling safe beside him.
Alone in darkness now, ghostly
silhouettes mock my inability to
fall asleep and persistent clatter
taunts me for my incapacity to
feel secure without him.
I dare not close my eyes for fear
that what I let pass may be more
daunting than that which I confront.
I wait for dawn to swallow up the
darkness before I sleep.
Tho’ he’ll soon be beside me again
and I will slumber serenely, ignoring
fearful shadows and derisive noises,
my utmost dread is that, one day, I'll
find myself alone in darkness again!

Wow! How do you get right into the heart with your words Peggy? You have a special talent. Keep up the good work!
I feel everything you must have felt when you wrote this. Fear of the night is something that's hard to understand unless you have it. I do. Thanx for describing it so well.
Beautiful! Read it over and over.
Interesting Peggy. Tells a story about anyone who feels afraid of the unknown. Well done!
Fantastic! Love this kind of description. You do it so well, Peggy.
This is beautiful Peggy. I think about that too sometimes.
Peggy you are never alone, you always have a friend with you and that friend is Jesus, He said I will never leave you or forsake you. I know that is not a warm body to curl up with, but He is with you at all times, day and night. Pray and reach out for His guiding hand. He will hold you. That is what I had to do after Ralph became ill and after his death.
I'm sure it must have been terribly lonely for you after you lost Ralph,Drema. I know we are never really alone, but it can sometimes feel like it in the darkest hour of the night.
Thank you for always being there with a word of encouragement for me! You are a special person!
I love this! Terse, dark, emotive! I'm so glad you share your gift for writing! ♡♡♡♡♡
It's a terribly lonely and scary time when those fears become our realities.
I'm sure it is, Bonnie! So sorry you're having to experience it.
I can identify with this. It does feel lonely and daunting at times. That is when we go to the Throne of Grace for strength to help in time of need. God always comes through when we seek Him with our whole heart.
Such an insightful thought, Peggy. I enjoy your posts immensely. God bless.
Thank you Jewel! I appreciate your reading my posts. God does indeed always come through for us. I'm so grateful for His love and mercy!
